Progress Update, Future Plans & My Website
Just checking in on where we're at with this project, as it's still got a couple entries to go!
- The first draft is now properly underway for the penultimate story, which will probably be called MORGAN AND THE HORIZON.
- Part of the reason it's taken a while to get rolling is uhhhh I had to move house! But we are now mostly moved in, so I'm getting back up to speed.
- But also I've been constructing a website, where the Gordian Cycle is now hosted as a back-up, among other things: https://sunshinemoon.zone/ It's still in progress, lots to add--including some of these dev-diaries. It's a reassuring back-up to have, given recent events.
- Once I've written the final two stories, I will be putting together a combined file with all ten. I'll be making some minor edits to them in the process, mostly for consistency: e.g. there's some turns of phrase in the first story or two that never appeared again once I got a clearer vision of the setting (like local lords being called "sub-kings" or Tharsismen being called "Tharsians"). Not sure if I'll update the individual story files too. I probably will? I'm not going to be changing the substance of the story or anything.
- This combined file may include a bonus entry at the end called something like, I dunno, "Fragments of Morgan" or "Fragments of the Gordians", containing little snippets of the way other cultures reinterpreted and adapted these stories down the centuries. This entirely depends on if I can produce such a thing to an acceptable standard. I may also want to rethink how I format the translator's notes for a combined file.
Then, once I've put the finishing touches on the Gordian Cycle to my satisfaction and got my website where I want it, I can finally get back to what was supposed to be my main project before this, an RPGMaker game inspired by 80s sci-fi anime and tokusatsu called Starhound. You may note the reoccurrence of 'hound', and indeed, the Gordian Cycle partly emerged out of ideas that spun out of Starhound that were too incongruous with its light, campy tone, or were drawing more on different source material (like, uh, 70s tokusatsu). So they're kind of sister projects; 'two tales of Hounds' branching off a vague shared nucleus in very different directions, or something.
In the meantime, though, look forward to the upcoming story! My outline includes the phrases "jury-rigged amps", "big buggy full of lads", and "falls into the Wolfstream".
